DARRYL SWEET, CPSM, C.P.M., general services manager for the City of Berkeley, has been in supply chain management for more than 25 years. Previously he served as the director of business services at UC Hastings College of the Law where he managed the college’s purchasing and contracting functions, as operations manager in the fuel industry, and as a purchasing supervisor with the City of San Leandro. He also worked with the UC system at the Office of the President as a manager in a strategic sourcing venture to address nearly $2 billion in UC spending. He has a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara, a master's certificate in Supply Chain Management from American Graduate University, and designations as both a certified professional in supply management (CPSM) and certified purchasing manager (C.P.M.) from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). Professional associations include the California Association of Public Procurement Officials (CAPPO). He served as president, 2018-2019 and board member, 2015–2020; and an ISM member. He is a coach and mentor to other CAPPO members, has presented several educational sessions for CAPPO, and earned an award of merit from CAPPO for his significant contributions to the association in 2015. Besides supply chain, Sweet's interests are aviation and maritime. He has his private pilot license and teaches youth boating on the bay and delta.
