RUHINA NAJEM, MD, brings nearly 20 years of international medical, clinical and health administration training and experience to the classroom to help students understand, practice, and enjoy personal and professional growth through studies in biology and healthcare. She received her medical degree from Kabul Medical School and served as a physician in the Afghan Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Afghan-Soviet war. She went on to hold research positions at Stanford University School of Medicine and at the Veterans Administration Palo Alto Health Care System. Najem’s pioneering efforts have led to the opening of clinics across Afghanistan that are significantly improving healthcare access for women and underserved minorities. She is completing a doctorate in Healthcare Administration with a research focus on gender inequities in healthcare.
