"Always remember that while healthcare incorporates science, it’s not about science, it’s about people. In other words, your grades are important, but who you are is much more important than what you’ve done."

Joon Kim, Ed.D., Senior Director, Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program, Keck Graduate Institute

JOON KIM, Ed.D., founding senior director of the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program at Keck Graduate Institute and former premedical student, has first-hand experience of what aspiring doctors go through to pursue their medical school dreams. The son of South Korean immigrants, he has taught students at every school level — from elementary to undergraduates and has been advising students and helping them gain admission into graduate health programs for more than 20 years. He earned a master’s degree in Education and a doctorate in Leadership and Educational Psychology. He speaks often at professional conferences and his students say they most appreciate his balance of candor, truth, and encouragement. When not teaching and mentoring, he enjoys traveling with his wife and three kids in their RV. He teaches the Medical School Application Workshop
