Curious about how to prepare for a job fair?

Four tips to prepare yourself before the event

Research the organization

Before the fair opens, you'll be able to explore which employers will be participating. Identify your top 3-5 companies you're interested in (but be sure to stay open to engaging with multiple organizations at the event). Do your research by reviewing company websites (what's the company's mission? values?), currently open/available opportunities (are they hiring for interns? full-time roles?), and perhaps check out their social media for the latest news from the organization. Company representatives are impressed by potential candidates who take the time to do this!

Prepare your introduction and questions

Have you researched participating organizations? Reflect on reasons why each company resonates with you. Perhaps it's the specific technology they're developing, research they're leading, or a world problem they're trying to solve. What relevant experiences do you have? How can you be of service to the organization? Exercise critical thinking skills to develop questions to ask recruiters and hiring managers.

Dress with confidence

Each industry and each company has different work attire expectations and organizational culture. Do your research, ask mentors in advance for advice, and dress with confidence!

Plan your time

Be sure to manage the time you have to ensure you're able to connect with the companies you're most interested in, but also remember to be open to different companies you may not have heard of because they may be startups or business-to-business organizations that don't directly serve consumers.
